UST Economics Department
Major and Minor Requirements
Students may choose between a bachelor of arts (B.A.) and a bachelor
of science (B.S.) In either case, students take a set of core courses in
economics plus a course in calculus and a course in statistics.
The major requirements are:
- Econ 251 Principles of Macroeconomics
- Econ 252 Principles of Microeconomics
- Econ 315 Empirical Methods in Economics
- Econ 351 Macroeconomic Theory
- Econ 352 Microeconomic Theory
- Calculus - from the mathematics department
- Statistics - from either the QMCS or math department
In addition, economics majors must take:
- B.A. three electives numbered 300 or above
- B.S. three specified electives, based on a path taken within the B.S.
(business, international or mathematics), plus two additional electives
numbered 300 or above, plus three additional allied requirements, also
based on the path taken with the B.S.
Students choosing an economics minor must take six courses in economics
as follows:
- Econ 251 Principles of Microeconomics
- Econ 252 Principles of Macroeconomics
Plus one of:
- Econ 351 Macroeconomic Theory
- Econ 352 Microeconomic Theory
Plus
- three economics electives numbered 300 or above
